Classes of Members

DeMolay International has nine classes of members

These include:

Class 1: Active Members (Voting members of DeMolay International)

Class 2: Emeritus Members

Class 3: Deputy Members

Class 4: Honorary Members

Class 5: Registered Adult Advisors

Class 6: Active DeMolays

Class 7: Senior DeMolays

Class 8: Members of the Order of Squires


Qualifications for Class 1, 2, 3, and 4 Members

Must be at least thirty years of age, unless serving as an Executive Officer (Class 1 Executive Officers must be at least twenty-five)

Class 3 members must be at least twenty-five years of age. Must be a Mason in good standing May not be a salaried official or employee of DeMolay International or any DeMolay Foundation, organization, or extension movement. Membership holds during good behavior or until reclassified, resigns, or no longer meets qualifications.

Class 1 and Class 3 members must submit to a background check and annually sign and electronically file a Certificate of Change or No Change with the Grand Secretary by November 30th

Qualifications for Class 5 Members (Registered Adult Advisors)

Shall be those registered and enrolled on an Advisory Council or Jurisdictional Staff as required in the rules and regulations. Must be at least 21 years of age. No person may serve until they have successfully completed the DeMolay registered adult advisor training program and the Executive Officer has approved their application. Any Mason in good standing, Senior DeMolay, or the father, mother, stepfather, stepmother, or legal guardian of a DeMolay, and any other individual permitted by the Executive Officer, may serve. To be Chairman, a registered adult advisor must be a Mason in good standing. Every registered adult advisor must annually file a Certificate of Change or No Change by November 30th and complete training approved by the Board of Directors. All registered adult advisors are appointed by the Executive Officer

Qualifications for Class 6 Members (Active DeMolays)

Shall be active members of the Order as defined in the rules and regulations. An application for membership can be received from a young man who has passed his twelfth birthday but has not reached his twenty-first birthday. Must be recommended by two members of the Order, or a Senior DeMolay, or a Mason. Must be sponsored by a Mason. Membership is based on character and moral qualifications as prescribed in The Sacred Landmarks of the Order of DeMolay.

Qualifications for Class 7 Members (Senior DeMolays)

Shall be DeMolays who have passed their twenty-first birthday and meet other requirements in the rules and regulations. Active membership in the Order generally ends at age twenty-one, unless serving as an elected International, Congress, or Jurisdictional Officer installed before their twenty-first birthday. A Senior DeMolay without a certificate or Life Membership card cannot visit a DeMolay Chapter. A Senior DeMolay with a certificate or Life Membership card can visit but without voting rights or participation in business/activities, except as provided. Former DeMolays can obtain a Senior DeMolay certificate by applying to the Grand Secretary.

Qualifications for Class 8 Members (Order of Squires)

Shall be active members of the Order of Squires as defined in the rules and regulations. Application for membership can be received from a young man who has passed his 9th birthday but has not reached his 12th birthday and has paid the membership fee. The Executive Officer may permit membership to continue past his 12th birthday if a member is installed Master Squire prior to his 12th birthday and does not become a Class 6/Active DeMolay Member during his term.
