Reporting Abuse or Injury

Zero Tolerance Policy for alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, hazing, or any physical, verbal, sexual, or emotional abuse/bullying. Any violation may result in suspension or expulsion. If actions violate federal, state, or local laws, they will be reported to appropriate authorities for investigation and prosecution.

DeMolay defines abuse as any action, inaction, or event that endangers or injures the physical, psychological, or emotional well-being of a youth. Any member with reason to believe a youth is being abused, bullied, or in danger, shall immediately inform their Executive Officer.

Immediate Health and Safety (e.g., injury):

Step 1: Youth reports/injury observed.

Step 2: Call 911, notify lead advisor, guide ambulance.

Step 3: Call parents/guardians.

Step 4: Call Executive Officer/designee.

Step 5: Follow directions.

Step 6: Complete injury form.

Suspected Neglect/Abuse: Follow jurisdictional reporting requirements (civil authorities) and immediately inform Executive Officer.

Report Writing: Write within 24 hours, avoid speculation/pronouns, have someone else read it, refer questions to DeMolay International, do not conduct own investigation, do not discuss with others.
