Prohibited Activities
Abuse and Physical Force: Physical violence (slapping, spanking, corporal punishment), sexual contact/behavior, sexually explicit materials, inappropriate romantic/sexual relationships with youth, and neglect (withholding food, water, medical aid) are prohibited.
Hazing and Bullying: Zero tolerance policy for any intentionally harmful behavior, including forced consumption, physical brutality, confinement, sleep deprivation, online humiliation, or "old traditions that are no longer deemed acceptable". Applies to both youth and adults.
Drugs, Alcohol & Stimulants: Use or possession of mind-altering substances, illegal drugs, or abuse of prescription/OTC drugs is prohibited during DeMolay activities. Energy drinks with stimulants are strongly discouraged.
Blindfolding: Prohibited in all DeMolay ceremonies. Unauthorized Ceremonies or Organizations: Only ceremonies published in official Rituals or approved in writing by the Executive Officer (with specific limits) may be performed.
All secret activities, unofficial organizations, and unsanctioned ceremonies are prohibited.S
Specific Prohibited Activities: Baseball (softball permitted), bungee jumping, outdoor skydiving, use of certain aircraft (hang gliders, ultralights, experimental, non-tethered hot-air balloons), specific shooting sports, throwing large/dangerous objects, cannons, crossbows, spears, parkour, cliff diving, tree climbing, parachuting/BASE jumping, rodeo events, jumping with bungee-cord devices, exploration of abandoned mines, tackle football.
State, Local, and Jurisdictional Specific Regulations: DeMolay must comply with applicable laws. Executive Officers may prohibit other activities at their discretion.
