Supervision Policies
Visual Access: Advisors should avoid being isolated with individual youth; conversations in confidence should be in visual range of others (e.g., windowed room with open door).
Two-Deep Leadership: At least two DeMolay advisors must be present at all meetings, trips, outings, and chapter activities
Rule of Four: For all activities, no fewer than four individuals (at least two DeMolay Advisors) should be in attendance to ensure assistance in case of incident.
Advisor to Youth Ratio: For Active DeMolays (12-21) and youth guests, two advisors for 10 or fewer, then one additional for every 10 additional youth. For Squires (9-11) and youth guests, two advisors for 8 or fewer, then one additional for every 8 additional youth.
Parental Involvement: Parents/Guardians must be notified of all official DeMolay activities (date, location, times, contact info for advisors) and are welcome to participate.
Overnight Events: Requires written permission slip and Medical Release Form from parents/guardians. Youth should never stay overnight at an advisor's home/property unless directly related or with written EO permission.
Advisors may not stay in rooms with unrelated youth. Housing recommendations include age-based rooming and avoiding Squires with DeMolays unless related. Adjoining doors in hotels must remain locked if unrelated.
Supervision during Overnight Events: Supervision must be provided at all times, including sleeping areas ("unstructured time") through rounds and regular presence.
